Rightmove is a property search platform for the UK. The existing mobile website used some poor UX practice.

I chose 4 components on the mobile website to redesign using basic UX heuristics, and then tested the prototype on users.

Change #1

Searching for a property isn't accessible from the homepage.

The user is forced to navigate away. Assuming that 'Search' is their main user task, I moved the search form onto the homepage hero section and converted the orignal Buy-or-Rent buttons into a toggle switch.

Change #2

The position of the 'input-hint' could have been improved.

The forgiving-format allows searching of multiple datatypes (Cities, Postcodes etc.) but the input-hint takes up space. I moved it into the search bar itself to save space and focus attention.

Change #3

Short lists were hidden behind dropdown menus, increasing the interaction cost.

The Min and Max bedrooms were both identical dropdown menus containing just a few options. To save space and speed up input, I converted them to a 'toggle-chip-slider' revealing the options and reducing the interaction cost.

Change #4

The search form was split across different visual regions.

This separated the form out unecassarily. I grouped the search form into a common region to appear as one section.
